Arranged in an almost hypnotic sequence in the territory of Arzachena, the Megalithic Circles of Li Muri represent the oldest and most enigmatic archaeological evidence in all of Gallura. Dating back to the late 5th millennium B.C., this complex of the San Ciriaco culture shatters the classic image of Nuragic Sardinia, projecting visitors into an even more remote era tied to the great solar cults of the early Neolithic.
Four large concentric rings of stones driven into the ground enclose small stone cists at the center, designed to house individual high-ranking burials. The geometric precision with which the prehistoric builders traced these perimeters reveals a profound knowledge of astronomy and the landscape, where every stone element seems to dialogue with the path of the sun. Among the circles, small menhirs and cists for ritual offerings stand out, demonstrating a complex and fascinating funerary ritual.
