A giant granite cap suspended in mid-air, patiently sculpted by wind and rain over thousands of years: Mushroom Rock (Roccia del Fungo, or Monti Incappiddatu in Gallurese) is one of the most iconic and bizarre natural monuments in all of Gallura.
Perched on a hill overlooking the town of Arzachena, this extraordinary rock formation seems to defy gravity with its impressive silhouette. Used since the Bronze Age as a natural rock shelter—as evidenced by archaeological finds discovered at its base—the rock is not only a marvel of nature, but also an important piece of local history. Today, it is easily reached via a short and pleasant walk from the town center, offering visitors a panoramic view over the rooftops of Arzachena and the surrounding hills.
