At the gates of Arzachena, nestled at the foot of a granite spur, the Nuraghe Albucciu represents an extraordinary and unusual example of Nuragic architecture.
Classified as a protonuraghe or corridor nuraghe, this monument immediately distinguishes itself from the classic tholos towers by its rectangular and elongated structure, which utilizes the natural rock to integrate perfectly with the surrounding environment.
The most fascinating element is the majestic facade made of carefully worked granite blocks, surmounted by a series of stone corbels that originally supported an upper terrace. Having crossed the lintel portal, the interior reveals a system of corridors, niches, and small rooms with flat-slab roofing, where the light filters in to create an atmosphere charged with suggestiveness. The construction technique bears witness to a fundamental transition phase in Bronze Age engineering in Sardinia.
