Meilogu and Monteacuto
Meilogu, meaning “Middle Place,” and Monteacuto, or “Sharp Mountain.”
Although we are not speaking of the famous fantasy tale, one can say with Elvish certainty that these two lands would fit perfectly within Tolkien’s saga.
We are talking about a vast area largely scattered with dormant volcanoes, where the work of time has given us today a landscape stretching from these ancient heights down into the valleys before Lake Coghinas, a basin fed by the river of the same name, the third longest in Sardinia.
Everywhere lie the remains of the civilization that walked these lands millennia ago: nuraghi, necropolises, altars, dolmens, and giants’ tombs—evocative, archaic traces of history that lend these places a truly literary charm.
Not to mention the many enchanted villages, or rather, enchanting hamlets, inhabited by magical beings—or better still, by an ancient and welcoming people who guard a culture unique in the world, rich in customs, sounds, and flavors of irresistible allure.
To enter the “Middle Place” and “Sharp Mountain,” you won’t need invisibility, nor the company of proud and surly dwarves. All you have to do is decide how long you wish to stay and set out—ready to immerse yourself in a land as captivating as a true treasure.
