In the shade of Buddusò's cork oak forests, the Sos Monumentos dolmen presents itself as a small megalithic chamber partially embedded in the ground.
Unlike towering monumental structures, the tomb stands out for its low and compact profile, where the large capstone, a thick unworked and flat basalt slab, rests directly on a masonry of unshaped stones and small dry-stacked support blocks.
The narrow entrance, oriented outward, leads into an essential underground chamber designed to host the collective burials of local communities. The structure combines the mass of the great upper stone with lateral rubble containment masonry, conceived to distribute the load and prevent the surrounding earth from collapsing into the cavity.
The outcropping boulders in the vicinity and traces of smaller stones scattered across the ground indicate the presence of a sacred perimeter that once bounded the tomb's area. Sos Monumentos remains an example of a mixed-structure dolmen in Sardinia's interior, where raw cover stone integrated into the natural relief defines a discreet yet enduring funerary space.
