The Tattinu sacred well, located within the municipal territory of Nuxis, constitutes a refined example of devotional architecture linked to water worship during the Bronze Age.
The cult building reveals an hypogeum structure created using blocks of limestone and local stone, skillfully shaped and dry-laid. A rectangular vestibule precedes the access staircase, composed of a series of steps leading down to the underground chamber that houses the spring vein. The roofing of the staircase is resolved with a stepped ceiling, while the well chamber features a perfectly preserved tholos vault, whose circular geometry and precision in the arrangement of the rows reflect the technical expertise of Nuragic master builders. The remains of the perimeter masonry structures that surrounded the sacred area indicate the presence of a space intended for welcoming the faithful and carrying out purification rituals.
The sober elegance of the architectural lines and the harmonious integration of the work into the hilly landscape of Sulcis impart considerable monumental value to the site, making it a fundamental testimony to the island's prehistoric religiosity.
