An oasis where fishing traditions intertwine with a rich, vibrant natural landscape: the Tortolì Lagoon (Stagno di Tortolì) is one of the most important and captivating wetlands on Sardinia's east coast. This lagoon stretches out just behind the sea, framed by reed beds, rushes, and lush Mediterranean scrub.
This ecosystem is a true paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts, home to gray herons, little egrets, ospreys, and—at various times of the year—majestic pink flamingos that paint the lagoon's waters in soft pink hues. Beyond its environmental value, the lagoon is famous for its thriving, historic fishing industry. Managed by a local cooperative, fishermen continue to use traditional techniques to catch sea bass, gilthead seabream, and especially the renowned flathead mullet, used to produce a prized bottarga celebrated throughout Sardinia.

Just a short distance away, you can reach the famous San Gemiliano beach with its Spanish watchtower, or head into the center of Tortolì and the coastal district of Arbatax, world-renowned for its striking Red Rocks (Rocce Rosse) of porphyry rising dramatically from the crystal-clear sea.
