In the territory of Borore, a short distance from the Santu Bainzu burial site, the Nuraghe Toscono appears as a massive and partially dismantled volume emerging from the vegetation.
This single-tower structure, built with squared stone blocks arranged in horizontal courses, presents an uneven state of conservation: while one side maintains several meters of elevation, the opposite part has almost completely collapsed under the weight of the centuries.
The original southeast entrance, obstructed by rubble, forces one to read the monument through alternative openings and breaches opened in the masonry. Inside, the corridor preserves the classic layout with a guard niche and a staircase compartment carved into the thickness of the wall, while the central chamber reveals the presence of three niches and the remains of the ancient roof. Around the tower, the remnants of the surrounding village are now absorbed by the scrub and pasture.
Toscono does not offer the monumental impact of better-restored sites, but delivers the rugged charm of field archaeology. Its imperfect silhouette and the imposing thickness of the walls testify to the solid engineering of the Bronze Age builders in the heart of the Marghine.
