In the heart of Perfugas’ historic centre, nestled among the houses and narrow streets of the village, lies one of the Anglona’s most fascinating surprises: the Sacred Well of Predio Canopoli. A place where you can dive—without getting wet—into some of the most authentic and captivating archaeology there is.

Its discovery feels like a story worth telling. It was 1923 when Domenico Canopoli, while carrying out work in the courtyard of his own home, brought this extraordinary monument back to light. Forget ordinary home improvements: beneath his feet, a millennia-old secret lay asleep.
With its perfect geometry and walls so smooth they look as though they were built yesterday, this sacred well is considered one of the best preserved in all of Sardinia. It stood at the heart of the Cult of Water, a sacred practice that accompanied local communities for centuries, where water was not merely a vital resource, but a bridge to the divine—a meeting place between humans and the sacred.
The artefacts discovered here tell this story clearly: cooking pans, bowls, oil lamps, and even a bronze ox and bull, offerings that bear witness to rituals and ceremonies and show that the well was frequented continuously from the Nuragic Age through to the Middle Ages. A true record of spiritual longevity.

Visiting the Sacred Well of Predio Canopoli today means discovering a corner of Anglona where history quite literally emerges from beneath the ground, ready to surprise anyone willing to look beyond the surface.
Because in Perfugas, this can happen too: you stroll peacefully through a charming village and suddenly find yourself face to face with three thousand years of history.
