In the heart of the Anglona countryside, just a short distance from the charming village of Chiaramonti, stands a nuraghe that has made resilience its defining trait and ancestral charm its most authentic essence. Reaching us directly from the Nuragic era in remarkably good condition—healthy as a fish, as the saying goes—this is, indeed, Nuraghe Sanu.

Although at first glance it may appear isolated, this graceful megalithic monument is actually set within an area extraordinarily rich in archaeological evidence. The surrounding landscape is dotted with sites of great historical significance, such as the renowned Nuraghe Ruju, the mythical Petrified Forest of Carrucana, and the legendary Doria Castle, to name just a few. Together, they form a mosaic of treasures that recount centuries of history and enhance the bucolic, gentle scenery of Anglona.
As is often the case with Nuragic architecture, its location is far from accidental: the nuraghe dominates the surrounding landscape, offering sweeping views over the nearby hills. Its imposing appearance, on the other hand, comes from the large stone blocks expertly stacked one upon another—a construction technique that has ensured its longevity, allowing it to withstand centuries of harsh weather and the relentless passage of time.

Perhaps it is not a nuraghe destined for glossy covers, but like many other lesser-known and less-visited monuments, Nuraghe Sanu helps remind us that the Sardinian countryside is not merely land and vegetation. Rather, it is an open-air historical journey, capable of telling the story of a distant past that still awaits discovery and appreciation.
