Within the municipal territory of Goni, inside the archaeological park of Pranu Muttedu, the domus de janas represent the subterranean burials created during the Neolithic by the communities of the Ozieri culture, set within a context of great significance that also includes the site's celebrated menhirs and megalithic circles.
Unlike other Sardinian hypogeum complexes carved into imposing vertical rock faces or high limestone ridges, the terrain morphology of this plateau is characterized by low outcrops of sandstone and limited-height erratic boulders dispersed among the tree vegetation.
To adapt to this specific geological conformation, the tombs feature quadrangular entrances opened flush with the ground or directly at the level of the countryside floor, being completely devoid of monumental foreparts, elaborate architectural facades, or relief decorative elements. The internal environments are carved into the soft and malleable rock, developing entirely horizontally, without the presence of overlapping rooms or artificial elevations, strictly reflecting the low height of the available rock banks and offering a unique testimony to funerary excavation techniques in the territory of Gerrei.
