In the territory of Calasetta, along the northern coast of Sant'Antioco Island, the Rocce Rosse (Red Rocks) form one of the most fascinating and geologically complex coastal stretches in the area. The coastline here unfolds as an intricate cliff face shaped from ancient volcanic rock, where the warm tones of red trachyte stand out vividly against the clarity of the sea.
What makes this place extraordinary is its immediate connection with the inland landscape, dominated by the wetlands of the Calasetta salt pans. Directly behind the rock formations and nearby dune systems lies a brackish lagoon protected as an environmental sanctuary, home to various species of waterfowl, most notably pink flamingos. This rapid shift in environments, transitioning in just a few hundred meters from volcanic cliffs to the quiet waters of the salt pans, creates a landscape of enormous natural and visual value.
Along the cliffs, the complete absence of sand ensures exceptionally clear waters right from the edge.
