At the center of the Pedrasenta plateau, within the municipal territory of Suni but strongly tied to the landscape and cultural dynamics overlooking the Montiferru and Planargia regions, the Nuraddeo nuraghe stands out as one of the most intact, fascinating, and best-preserved megalithic complexes in all of Sardinia.
The fortress is developed according to the trilobed typology, centered on an imposing central keep surrounded by a solid bastion enclosing three perimeter towers connected by linear curtain walls. The main tower, which retains a remarkable height, amazes scholars for a unique architectural feature on the island: the upper rows of the basalt block masonry interrupt their tapering to assume a perfectly vertical alignment, culminating in a terminal section originally embellished with bicolored elements and a circular walkway supported by large stone corbels. Past the entrance protected by a lintel with a relief triangle, an articulated system of corridors and a helical staircase lead to the internal tholos-vaulted chambers, where recent archaeological investigations have even revealed traces of the ancient use of cork as thermal insulation.
Surrounded by the extensive remains of a Nuragic village that bears witness to prolonged habitation over the centuries, Nuraddeo visually dominates a vast horizon stretching from the internal volcanic slopes to the Temo river valley and the sea, confirming its status as an admirable masterpiece of engineering and strategic territorial control.
