Situated in the forests of the Supramonte of Villagrande Strisaili, the archaeological area of Sa Carcaredda represents one of the most evocative Nuragic and cult complexes in Ogliastra.
Surrounded by a lush holm oak forest, the site testifies to the deep spirituality and architectural mastery achieved by Sardinian populations during the Bronze Age.
The heart of the area is represented by a rare megaron temple, a rectangular structure with walls made of finely squared granite blocks dry-stacked together. Inside the temple, excavations have brought to light a ritual hearth and precious votive artifacts in bronze and ceramics, tied to ceremonies dedicated to the cult of waters and Nuragic deities.
Next to the main temple winds a Nuragic village composed of several circular huts, some of which were used for artisanal activities and metal casting. A short distance away, the presence of a giants' tomb completes the picture of a settlement that united daily life, productive activities, the memory of the deceased, and the sacred sphere into a single integrated space.
