In the municipality of Triei, atop a hill overlooking the Osono plain, lie the remains of the Bau Nuraxi nuraghe.
The structure combines blocks of granite and schist sourced on site, used to erect a building positioned in an ideal spot to control the watercourse and the pathways of the area.
Roof collapses and rubble accumulated at the entrance prevent entry into the interior of the tower. Interest is therefore focused on the external masonry, where the dry-laid boulders follow the inclination of the natural rock and demonstrate the durability of the original construction site. The remaining perimeter walls retain the imprint of the original building and its close adherence to the terrain.
Surrounding the central body of the tower, the perimeter walls of several circular huts emerge from the ground. These stones document the presence of a village inhabited during the Bronze Age, a time when local communities organized animal husbandry, cultivation, and the protection of water sources in this strip of territory. Bau Nuraxi bears witness to the practical use of stone and human settlement in the valleys of Ogliastra.
