An incredible rift in the rock that seems to open the gates to the underground world: Sa Brecca de Is Tapparas, located in the territory of Ulassai, is an evocative and deep limestone gorge—a true canyon carved into the heart of Ogliastra's famous tacchi (limestone heels).

Walking through it is an almost mystical experience, outside of time. The soaring rock walls, so close together they let only thin shafts of light filter through, create a cool microclimate even on the hottest summer days. The canyon floor is carpeted with lush ferns and moss, where the silence is broken only by water dripping from the rock and the rustle of the wind through the tops of the holm oaks crowning the fissure.

Exploring this natural monument serves as the ideal starting point to discover the many wonders surrounding the village of Ulassai. Just a short distance away lie the spectacular Su Marmuri Caves—among the most impressive in Europe—and during periods of heavy rainfall, you can admire the majestic plunge of the Lequarci Waterfalls. Furthermore, the area is famous for its seamless blend of nature and contemporary art, thanks to the presence of the Stazione dell'Arte museum dedicated to the artist Maria Lai.
