An imposing basalt presence stands out among the pastures of Illorai, catching the eye even before revealing the details of its architecture. The visual impact of the Nuraghe Luche imparts an immediate sense of strength and harmony, suggesting the feeling of a solid, vigilant garrison guarding the Marghine plateau.
The monument is a complex nuraghe composed of a main tower and a two-lobed bastion made of well-squared basalt blocks arranged in horizontal courses. The entrance leads into a corridor with a flat-arch ceiling where accessory rooms open, along with the internal staircase leading to the upper levels. The central chamber of the keep preserves its circular plan with a well-preserved false-tholos dome, enriched by perimeter niches carved into the thickness of the masonry. Outside, the connecting structures of the added body and the remains of the huts that made up the surrounding ancient village emerge.
Observing the precision of the blocks and the grandeur of the masonry allows one to perceive the ingenuity and skill of the Nuragic populations, capable of transforming dark rock into a symbol of power and identity destined to defy the centuries.
