Dominating the surrounding landscape from the top of a rocky ridge in the territory of Orani, the Nuraghe Athethu stands out with its imposing single-tower structure.
The building, erected with large blocks of trachyte arranged in regular rows, is distinguished by its exceptional state of preservation. The main entrance, facing south and topped by a massive lintel, leads directly into a spacious internal corridor.
Beyond the threshold, the central chamber reveals an intact tholos ceiling that rises several meters in height. Within the thickness of the masonry, a very steep staircase ascends to the upper levels, alongside a large trapezoidal side niche. These architectural elements offer a direct and extraordinary testimony to the construction techniques adopted by ancient local communities during the Bronze Age.
Around the central keep, the remains of several huts belonging to the ancient village emerge, confirming the site's role as a gathering place. Its strategic position, immersed in the quiet of the Barbagia countryside, offers visitors an evocative view and a deep connection with the island's historical roots.
