The Necropoli di Uniai, located in the territory of Gavoi, presents itself as a high-altitude megalithic cemetery where the wind of Barbagia envelops an imposing alignment of giants' tombs.

There are no fences or forced paths here, as the remains of the granite exedrae emerge from the ground as if they had sprung up naturally along with the outcropping rocks and bushes of wild thyme. Unlike the isolated burials found on the plains, Uniai is striking for the concentration of its structures. Walking among these imposing square blocks means rediscovering the places where Bronze Age shepherds bid farewell to their dead, entrusting them to a stone capable of resisting the frosts of the mountain winter. The precision of the interlocking joints and the scale of the funerary corridors recount the extraordinary organizational strength of the ancient local communities.

Reaching this plateau in the Gavoi territory offers a very pleasant sense of isolation. Looking around, one overlooks the surrounding pastures and woods, while among the burials, only the sound of cowbells remains in the distance. Uniai is not simply a site to visit, but a high-altitude experience that allows one to touch the rawest, most authentic, and deepest spirituality of prehistoric Sardinia.
