In the territory of Fonni, near the Caravai mountain pass, the Madau area preserves a large sepulchral site consisting of four monumental tombs arranged in a semicircle.

The front part of the main tomb opens like a large stone semicircle, formed by tall slabs planted in the ground, at the center of which stands the large monumental stone with the entrance. The well-shaped granite rocks immediately convey the importance and solemnity of a place created to nurture the bond with ancestors.
Having passed the very small passageway, one enters a long covered gallery, used in ancient times as a communal burial site. The walls are constructed by overlapping blocks with great precision, creating a protected and sheltered space that breathes an atmosphere of profound respect for the memory and history of the community. Every stone tells of the great manual skill and care that these people put into honoring their loved ones.

The mountain landscape surrounding the monument, dominated by the peaks of Gennargentu and silent pastures, makes the visit even more pleasant and evocative. Walking among these imposing stone monuments allows for a true plunge into the past, discovering the most intimate and human side of ancient Sardinia within a natural context of rare beauty.
