Located on the heights overlooking the splendid Maladroxia bay, within the municipality of Sant'Antioco, the S'Ega 'e Marteddu nuraghe has served for centuries as an exceptional outpost controlling the southern coastline of the island.
The structure takes advantage of its panoramic position to visually dominate a strategic stretch of sea, long a crossroads of routes and landing places in the Sardinian channel. Today, it appears in fair condition of conservation, displaying an architectural layout of considerable interest characterized by a main tower built with large blocks of local stone arranged in horizontal rows. Around the central core develop the remains of additional wall structures and a small hut village, bearing witness to a prolonged occupation that saw the Nuragic community live and manage the surrounding territory not only for defensive purposes, but also for agro-pastoral and mercantile activities.
Archaeological investigations conducted in the area have yielded important ceramic fragments and material culture artifacts that attest to the long life of the site, inhabited and utilized during the Bronze Age and subsequent eras.
