There is a very specific reason why the Dolmen Ladas is considered the true "giant" among Sardinia's megalithic burials: the monumental slab that serves as its roof weighs about fifteen tons and exceeds three meters in length.
In Luras, in a corner of Gallura dominated by granite, this monument abandons the modest proportions of typical Neolithic dolmens to transform into an extraordinary prehistoric engineering feat.
Looking at it closely, one is struck by the precision with which the communities of the 4th millennium B.C. managed to lift and fit this immense stone table over thick, carefully squared vertical blocks. Inside, the burial chamber proves unusually deep and spacious, resembling a true covered gallery. Indeed, this was not an individual tomb, but a collective sepulcher intended to house entire generations of the clan, creating an indissoluble bond with the cult of the ancestors.
The Dolmen Ladas stands out for its imposing and essential solidity; the raw weight of the granite defies the millennia without the need for ornaments. Located a short distance from the other sites in Luras, it offers concrete proof of what stone carpentry was capable of achieving long before the advent of metals.
